WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE A POND IN YOUR BACKYARD?
RECREATION/FISHING
A well-managed pond can be a tremendously productive fishery. As far as outdoor activities for kids go, a pond has high potential for consistent kid fishing success. Productive fish habitats cultivate algae that kick start the food chain and increase the productivity of the entire system. Fallen trees or aquatic vegetation can function as a places for smaller fish to hide from predators.
VISUAL APPEAL
In addition to the calming view of water, many people enjoy watching wildlife use the pond. Adding a big log or two to your pond will attract the attention of wildlife such as sunbathing turtles and frogs, ducks and other birds.
OTHER REASONS
Your pond can provide a much-needed stopover point during waterfowl migrations and can provide mammals with valuable water and potential food as they pass through.
